Today I’m talking all about tape-in hair extensions!
As I shared on my Instagram at the end of August I tried tape-in hair extensions at Studio A Salon here in Houston. Owner David and Stylist Jesse have become dear friends over the past year. Their salon is chic and cozy. David and I bond over our past lives as dancers and our reoccurring injuries. One day I’ll get him out to a ballet class with me! But until then we trade war stories while they revive my hair.
Hair Envy:
Being a blonde with fine hair is hard! I always wanted long thick hair, which is why I’ve experimented so much with hair extensions in the past. My experience with hair extensions is lengthy, wink wink. I have tried fusion, clip-ins, and the “halo”. But, so far the tape-in extensions are by far my favorite. They are light, less damaging and quick to apply.
What I Like About Tape in Hair Extension
1. Tape-in hair extensions are said to be the least damaging permanent type of hair extension available. Fusion is terrible!
2. The application is very quick, mine took about 15 minutes.
3. They are so natural looking.
4. One set can be re-applied 3 times. Your stylist will suggest when they should be moved up but the average seems to be around 6-8 weeks.
5. They are very light and comfortable. Opposed to clip-ins and fusion which I find heavy and the halo, which I find feels less secure.
6. Waking up with lots of hair! I love that I don’t have to apply my extensions on the daily, like you would need to with clip in’s or a halo.
My Maintenance:
1. I sleep with pigtail braids to keep them wefts tidy and flat to my head while I sleep.
2. Shampoo in 2-4 sections.
3. Don’t put conditioner on tape as it will loosen the bond.
4. I use a leave in Hair conditioner when out of the shower and apply a hair oil as well.
4. Blow-dry hair in 4 sections.
5. Use a special brush specifically for extensions. It’s next to impossible to brush my the hair closest to my scalp with any other brush. This is a must for permanent extension upkeep. Shop through the image below.
