A Little Slice of Europe in South Florida
This is my first time visiting The Ringling Museum in Sarasota, Florida. The impressive estate is home to one of the preeminent art and cultural collections in the United States, all due to the circus impresario John Ringling, his beloved wife and their shared love for Sarasota, Italy, and art.
There is an evident influenced of european architecture thought the grounds. The Ca d’Zan, is a 52 bedroom mansion designed in the Venetian Gothic style overlooking the Sarasota Bay with a stunning marble terrace that takes you right up to the waters edge.
The 21-gallery museum houses John’s collection of paintings and art objects, highlighted by his collection of Old Masters, including Velazquez, Poussin, van Dyke and Rubens. It’s construction was modeled after the Florentine Uffizi Gallery. The Courtyard is filled with replicas of Greek and Roman sculpture, including a bronze cast of Michelangelo’s David.
