Much like fashion and decor; the simplest things are the best things. The Affogato is just that, in my dessert world. Simple, to the point and classic. It’s a great dessert if you’re dinner party or evening soiree is meant to roll into the am hours because 1. the Affogato has two ingredients, thus is easy to make and 2. the caffeine will keep the party goers pepped up.
The typical Affogato recipe calls for vanilla ice cream and espresso though some variations add a shot of Amaretto liquor.
Recipe:
1. Place a shatterproof cup or glass in the freezer. This drink works best when the container and the ice cream are at their coldest possible.
2. Scoop in some very cold vanilla ice cream or gelato into the cold glass.
3. a) Pour in one double shot of hot espresso right over the ice cream.
b) place double shot of espresso in a shot glass, side by side, in front of your guest so they can have the fun of pouring the espresso.
4. Optional topping of a shot of Amaretto liquor.
