Our Hotel: The Cove at Eleuthera
I had the most relaxing time in Eleuthera. It was such a wonderful getaway to recharge. When I was looking into booking this trip I didn’t want to be in a hotel room in a building but still wanted all the comforts a hotel offers. I found The Cove online on a “best hotels in Eleuthera” article and I was immediately drawn to the clean white aesthetics, the close proximity to the beach and the overall private and secluded adult atmosphere. It looked like a great couple- without kids escape.
When Matt and I go on “recharge” getaways we want like to book a beautiful place we can enjoy staying in. My goal on this trip was to get in the salt water (it’s a great detoxifier), eat, tan and nap. Matt and I tried to bike to the nearby town but I couldn’t handle going up the hills in the scorching sun on the complimentary hotel beach cruisers.
All our meals were at the two restaurants on property (meals are not included in the reservation). All the menu items are what you would find in the USA, eggs benedict, oatmeal with fruit, acai bowl etc… for lunch burgers, mahi-mahi burgers, salad options and my favorite side: Yucca Fries! We had a delicious sushi dinner at the Freedom Restaurant overlooking the water at sunset. The majority of the clientele were couples around our age and just a few with a couple of young children.
My Looks:
I basically wore swimwear every day! We would step out of our room, which was located in maybe 20 meters from the beach and set up for the day.

The Travel:
From Houston, we flew to West Palm Beach and stayed with my parents for a couple of days. From there we flew out of Ft. Lauderdale to Eleuthera International Airport. We flew Silver Airways. It was a 60-minute flight into the island on a small plane, but leaving was another story. Back into Fort Lauderdale, we were delayed for 6 hours. It was the worst delay I’ve had in a long time because for the first hour we didn’t know what was going on or if a plane was even coming for us. We were down to our last $20 and there was no food. The first thing to know about North Eleuthera is there are are no ATMs so you only have the cash you arrive with. Second, all the food spots around the “International” Airport close at 3 pm so don’t expect to get any food or WATER if your flight is later or like in our case is delayed. It kind of undid all the relaxing we had done the past three days. After 4 hours the ground crew took us to the private airport terminal next door and where they let us buy some chocolate bars and water. It was rural for sure and not what you expect from an “International” airport. It’s nothing that can’t be bearable with preparation, we were just ill-advised and unprepared. If we decide to return we are all the wiser.
The airport looks like this (insert laughing emoji faces):
